«I have an image in my head and flavors in my nose», jewelry homages French cuisine

«When I think of Italian food, I know what I’m talking about. I have an image in my head and flavors in my nose. The same goes for many other cuisines. But what about French cuisine?»

Erwann Petersen for Lampoon

The Danish-French photographer Erwann Petersen presents Lampoon an homage to French cuisine by playing with objects that evoke a decadent allure and stereotypes. French cuisine has its own complexity, so focused on the manipulation of matter and so far from the idea of a genuineness and fragrance proper to Italian cuisine. French cuisine, on the other hand, remains almost alchemical, the result of grotesque alterations and manipulations. Erwan Petersen traverses these references and eviscerates its magical nature. A banquet that shimmers and rots amid the smudged colors of a tired lens, relying more on memory than on the desire for faithful transposition.

Title: A decadent allure

«I wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a dinner with friends. Sharing a meal is a cherished moment in all cultures. It allows for exchange, enjoyment, conversation, discovery and to love – or maybe not.

France is known for its cuisine, but a non-French friend recently asked me to describe French cuisine and I found it hard. When I think of Italian food, I know what I’m talking about. I have an image in my head and flavors in my nose. The same goes for Japanese, Mexican, Lebanese, Arabian and many other cuisines.

But what about French cuisine? Meat at every meal? Good wines? Cigarettes and refined desserts?»
