Confronting the unknown and embracing the randomness of external forces

In a world that replaces human touch with digital connectivity and normalizes isolation, photographer Devred and stylist Blagoeva take their models outside of their comfort zone

Shuffle: Stephie Ronget Devred and Veronica Blagoeva

Title: Shuffle

This series of images walks us through the experience of initial encounter – when individuals unfamiliar with one another physically meet. The story explores interaction and power dynamics as well as the invisible conflicts and battles that take place within and outside of oneself. The team looked at the correlation between people fighting for a place.

In a world that replaces human touch with digital connectivity and normalizes isolation, disguising it by technological advancement and the ever-growing need for convenience, photographer Stephie Devred and stylist Veronica Blagoeva take their models outside of their comfort zone, encouraging them to confront the unknown in the face of others and embrace the randomness of external forces as a principle of order. To enhance the idea visually, the duo uses bold colors, movements and Veronica presses shuffle on styling – throwing random pieces unlikely to end up together in a mass of bodies and clashing objects.

Stephie Deved

Self-taught photographer, storyteller at heart studied writing in France. She moved to London looking for creative freedom. Devred’s approach to photography is one you would call organic. Discreet sensuality is a recurring theme in her work, focusing on body movement and modesty combined with intimacy. There is a candor in her photographs, an honesty in showing raw bodies or postures without eroticising them. Stephie likes to explore friendships and relationships through the intimacy of her lens with dramatic close-ups that drive a sense of familiarity with the objects. Her raw shots are a testimony, simple and honest.

Veronica Blagoeva

London-based fashion stylist and a visual creative. Originally from Bulgaria, her family moved to the Middle East in the 90’s; dividing her childhood between two visually disparate worlds. The primary color palette of the former Eastern Block is still a prominent element in her work.  Veronica graduated from London College of Fashion in 2017 specializing in fashion media and critical theory. She is also an Associate Lecturer at Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design.
