Prototipo Studio – a gallery and a concept store

Prototipo Studio Headquarters, Via Bagutta 14 Milano – a gallery and a concept store presenting a textile collection and sartorial items made with hemp fabrics

What is Prototipo Studio? the fashion industry, intellectual honesty in Milan

Just as Milan once turned the textile industry into what we call today the fashion industry, nowadays it faces the challenge to turn the luxury industry into a reference of positive implications. Transparency, intellectual honesty and human dignity are the civil commitments that every company must understand and honor. This is what Prōtotipo Studio is about.

Headquarters in Via Bagutta 14: fabrics and a selection of clothing items

The headquarters in Via Bagutta 14 is a temporary concept store and is conceived as both an exhibition gallery and as a concept store for limited edition items. By appointment, only.

The item collection presents a jumper, a blouse, a Sarner jacket and other sartorial pieces that are conceived for a sporty fit. They are made using hemp fabrics: the hemp yarns can be mixed with wool, alpaca and silk fibers. The blouse model is similar to a polo shirt. These seamless garments are adaptable to the shape of the body. Left raw, they recall the natural tones and scent of hemp. All the textiles are available and made to order.

The handwoven hemp vest is one of Prototipo Studio key items. It required one-hundred hours of work. The hemp fiber used for this garment is from Carmagnola hemp plants and was processed and laminated in Novara to obtain a higher thickness, before being manually woven into panels in Vigevano, Italy, to be used for the making of this garment.

Prototipo Studio, the hemp supply chain in Italy

Prototipo Studio stands for the restoration of the hemp supply chain in Italy – a positive effort towards the 2030 Sustainability Goals. This effort is driven by collaborations with research centers and universities, as well as the quest for regional and community incentives. Expected revenues are intended to be invested in the hemp supply chain: the fiber scutching, steeping, water-retting, and spinning in Italy.

Prototipo Studio – Lampoon Magazine and creative director Alessandro Fornaro

The headquarters location is a gallery and concept store by Lampoon Magazine, curated by architect Alessandro Fornaro. Prototipo Studio works on both a private and corporate commission basis to design custom clothing, jewelry and furniture pieces that can be made to order. Exclusive deals are possible.

Interior design masterpieces: Gabriella Crespi, Giovanni Travasa – the Cone of Learning

Since September 2021, Prototipo Studio has been presenting interior design masterpieces from Italian manufacturers with historical archives. Among these, design objects by Gabriella Crespi, Giovanni Travasa, Tito Agnoli, Ettore Sottsass and many others.

An iconic piece of such a collection is the Cono dell’Apprendimento (or, the Cone of Learning) in travertine. Using scraps from the Carrara industry in Italy, this piece references the philosophical study of aesthetics and the potential of geometry as if it were a work of text distilled into a tangible form.

Prototipo Studio and sezione/f by creative director Alessandro Fornaro

A leading role within the exhibition is reserved to sezione/f – the design atelier founded by Alessandro Fornaro. Adhering to the concepts of transparency and sustainability, sezione/f presents the Booleana table lamp in absolute black granite, glass and oxidized brass.

The design speaks to the intersection and subtraction of elements according to the Boolean formula, with a pyramidal marble monolith and rectangular faces premised on the Golden Ratio. The completed design object requires a minimum of one-hundred fifty hours of work and uses waste from the marble supply chain, recycled and recyclable glass, and refrains from the use of metal work produced via electroplating.

This table lamp marks the first release of an entire collection, one that envisions future releases of tables and furniture.
