A portrayal of a multicultural London youth

Aries launches its charm jewellery collection in collaboration with the luxury London based brand Hillier Bartley. The capsule includes seven charms, featuring the signatures of brands

On July 7th, Aries launches its charm jewellery collection in collaboration with the luxury London based brand Hillier Bartley. The capsule includes seven charms, featuring the signatures of brands. «This will be our second collaboration with Aries. What we love about collaborating with Sofia is the community that gets involved. The act of collaboration is often simplified but pared back; it is what business is all about. Co-ordinating together to create new ideas, trust, and an appreciation of a diversity of ideas», says Katie Hillier, Co-Founder, Hillier Bartley.

The Label Hillier Bartley was established in 2015 by its two founders Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley. Knowing each other from their illustration careers, they independently entered the fashion industry. In 2008 Bartley was deputized Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards, while Hillier designed for fashion houses such as Stella Mc Cartney or Mulberry. From 2013 to2015 the duo worked together on collections for Marc by Marc Jacobs – Bartley responsible for the Women’s Ready-To-Wear and Hillier executing the position of the Creative Director. Their label Hillier Bartley unties their spirit of Britishness, fusing elements of masculinity and femininity, expressed jewellery, shoes, and ready-to-wear pieces.

The capsule collection features seven charms that can be worn on Hillier Bartley’s signature 14K gold plated paper clip earring or co-branded gold chain necklace. As a part of their collaboration, Aries and Hillier Bartley invited students from City and Islington College to a multidisciplinary arts workshop in February 2020.  The workshop focused on branding, product development, fashion communication, art, and photography. «This will be our second collaboration with Aries», Hillier explains. «I think the work with the students was a special part of this project and has inspired us all». The sessions were documented in photographs and films to adhere to the creatives designing their piece of work, combined with the Aries x Hillier Bartley charm jewelry.

Photographer and Aries collaborator Clare Shilland captured the workshop scenery. All imagery from the sessions will be included in a book designed by Art Director Jonny Lu and in a short film directed by Jeremy Pollard. «Clare’s strength as a photographer is in capturing the innocence and beauty of youth and, this project seemed the perfect vehicle to explore a more documentary approach to fashion. The result is a portrayal of a multicultural London youth», Sofia Prantera, Aries Founder.
