White as wax, frail as paper – Giulia Spernazza’s work arrives to Lago di Garda

Four days of modern art and landscapes thanks to MuSa’s Strati d’Animo, a crossroad between exposition and installation which aims to involve the visitors as an active part in art’s creation

In 2015, a new voice raised from Salò, Italy, to join the chorus of art museums. The MuSa hosts a collection ranging between paintings from 1400 and Giovanni Battista’s Rimi anatomic models, reaching the present with an exposition of italian propaganda posters, mostly dated to World War II. Hellbent to be in touch with contemporary art and to empower the work of young artists,  the MuSa presents “Strati d’Animo, quando il visitatore diventa artista”, a crossroad between exhibition and installation which hosts the work of Giulia Spernazza, who won a residence-prize in 2019 edition of the national contest Arteam Cup. The artist, born in 1979 in Rome, will set up a personal exposition, donating one of her works to the Civica Raccolta del Disegno and developing an installation created with the public’s help during a cycle of encounters. Spernazza focuses on themes like fragility and nature, boh present in the materials she uses the most in her pieces: natural substances are chosen for their frailty, which remands to nature itself in turn.

For Strati d’Animo, Spernazza will choose wax and paper, both obtained by men and other animals: bees and wasps excell in their production long before mankind accomplished techniques able to reproduce them for profit. The juxtaposition of various layers of substances becomes a way to meditate on the meaning of time and its impact on human beigns; as the layers stack onto themselves, so experiences stack in human’s psyche, shaping the essence of an individual. Another cornerstone of Spernazza’s art is a very specific palette of colors, which revolves around various shades of white. This choice is dictated by the artist’s decision of keeping a minimal tone, building  her pieces with few elements instead of juggling an arsenal of colors, materials and shapes. White is also the key color for purity, which tracks back again to an idea of self exploration, a journey to the very core of what does it mean to be human. The choice of minimalism is also a challenge for the artist, always confronted by the need of finding the right balance between a small numbers of elements, dodging the sense of boredom and staleness. Strati d’Animo will develop through a cycle of workshops with the artist, available on October 4th , 9th  and 10th from morning to evening, and the unveiling of the exhibition itself on October 11th. The best way to live the experience, encased in Lago di Garda’s frame, is to book a room in Hotel Bellerive or rent an appartment in Antiche Rive.
