Napapijri’s Circular Series collection consists of recyclable jackets, made from a mono-material composition – Nylon 6 for fillings and trims and ECONYL Regenerated Nylon
Napapijri’s pioneering Circular Series of recyclable jackets has been certified with the Cradle to Cradle Gold Level. Since 2012, the Italian label works «to develop policies and technical solutions aimed at reducing the fashion industry’s environmental impact», says Timo Schmidt-Eisenhart, Global President Napapijri.
Over the past months, Napapijri the in 1987 established leisurewear, has collaborated with the Cradle to Cradle assessor EPEA Switzerland and a network of 47 suppliers to achieve certification from the Cradle to Cradle Innovation Institute – The Innovation Institute is dedicated to powering innovation for the circular economy through products with a positive impact on people and the planet -. During this period, they developed the components, assembling the Circular Jackets aligning with the Cradle to Cradle Certified product standards. 2019 marks the year of the launch of the Napapijri Circular Series.
The Circular Series collection consists of recyclable jackets, made from a mono-material composition – Nylon 6 (Polyamide 6) for fillings and trims and ECONYL Regenerated Nylon – a high-performance yarn, recycled from discarded fishing nets or waste materials. Three designs, the Circular Anorak, Circular Rainforest, and Circular Puffer, will be available in Spring Summer 21.
«Now, more than ever, we are aware of the pressing issues we are collectively asked to address. We have chosen to play in the preservation of the planet and its people through circularity», underlines Schmidt-Eisenhart.
As part of the project, the sourcing processes, mapping of the Series’ supply chain, and the committed parties were assessed. «Achieving a Cradle to Cradle certification for the Circular Series at the Gold level is a demonstration of how material choices and collaboration with supply chain partners can drive systems – level circularity from product to business model», says Christina Raab, VP Strategy & Development for the Cradle to Cradle Institute.
The Infinity Anorak, of the label’s FW19 collection – Napapijri’s first circular fashion project – has now been acknowledged by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute as an innovation, closing product, and technical loops. Developed and tested over three years, it is the first family of recyclable products to receive the Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM Gold level.
«Napapijri’s dedication to sustainable practices is reflected in the choices the brand has been making in the last years – from developing an alternative to down and phasing out fur, to pioneering a series of jackets brought to the market in keeping with the golden standards of the circular economy», states Anna Maria Rugarli, Sustainability & Responsibility Senior Director EMEA, VF International.
