107Rivoli, Paris. Inside the Musée des Arts Décoratifs

The boutique takes the design outside the museum and its section to the consumer, becoming an intermediary between the story and our daily life

A 10-minute walk from the much-loved WHSmith is 107Rivoli, a design boutique located on the Musée des Arts Décoratifs’ ground floor, next to its restaurant Loulou, a bistro, created by Joseph Diran.

The boutique takes the design outside the museum and its section to the consumer, becoming an intermediary between the story and our daily life. Here, beyond the Gae Aulenti’s Pipistrello lamp, are design and avant-garde objects: jewelery, fashion, accessories, decorative objects, graphic design, stationery and of course books and toys for kids.

Everything is strict of artisan quality, with attention placed on young creators that here can find their own space. This space is also a forum for research and creation, with an accent to the ancestral craftsmanship of the great manufacturers, particularly French, and traditional ornamentation. Even the furniture that composes the shop is of design and modular, in such a way that you can set it up always in different ways, according to the needs.

The storefront is regularly curated by leading contemporary designers and creators. Also, a special section is always devoted to a special thematic display of objects, often exclusive, about related and current exhibitions, like the last one about shoes ‘Marche et demarche’, with exclusively designed shoes, shoe clips, laces, socks and kits for the cure of your shoes.

The shop was ideated by Mathilde Bretillon, interior designer, member of the ‘La Mission des Mètiers d’Art’ for the French Ministry of Culture. Since 2014 she is the co-founder and creative director of International Design Expeditions. Each year, the boutique becomes a space where the dialogue between beautiful and useful is still active and vital. In this sense, the shop creates many events in its space, from meeting with designers and authors to personalized shoes, events for all kinds of audience and interests. A shop that extends the museum into the reality of our days, and makes it become vital and alive, with his dynamicity and attention to the absolute latest.
