Inspired by the possibilities of new applications for familiar things and materials. In conversation with Polina Osipova
Lampoon indotrucing: Polina Osipova
I do embroidery, wire and pearl sculptures. Embroidery went through my entire childhood. I am Chuvashia, a small federal subject of Russia. The national art-craft of Chuvash people is embroidery. All the women in my family were embroiderers.
Nowadays, I am inspired by the fact that I can find new applications for familiar things and materials. I disassemble my works, my bijouterie, and make new pieces of art out of them. One day, I finished my jewelry wire, so I started to use plumbing wire instead. Now I am making my new objects out of it. It is great to find new meaning for familiar things: this is the concept of my art.
