Involuntary Sculptures – Other Editions

Non-intentional forms produced within the urban environment

Involuntary Sculptures is a research-based publication by Other Editions examining non-intentional forms produced within the urban environment. The book investigates objects and spatial configurations that emerge from everyday use, functional necessity, and casual arrangement rather than artistic intention. The project situates these forms within a conceptual framework influenced by Marcel Duchamp’s readymade and Akasegawa Genpei’s theory of hyperart.

The publication documents urban elements observed in situ and reframes them as sculptural phenomena through photographic analysis. These objects are not modified or isolated; they are identified as they exist within the city, emphasizing perception as an operative tool. The book proposes a method of observation in which authorship is absent and interpretation is the primary act.

The volume consists of over sixty images in color and black and white, accompanied by English-language text. The structure supports visual sequencing as a system for classification and comparison, treating the city as an open archive of involuntary forms
