The contrast between wood and stone at Rosapetra in Cortina

The alternation of stone and wood on the walls, in the bedroom – so in the lounges and in the restaurant: a hotel in Cortina that opens onto the valley

Rospetra, Cortina: close to downtown, filled with open space

Upon the arrival from the road, the question arises of whether the building is not too close to the roadway. Once inside, there is a sense of dimension in the lobby on the valley side that opens up into an unanticipated breadth. Regarding the address in Cortina: the hotel is a few minutes’ drive from downtown, yet it opens onto the image of a mountain filled with air and space.

One eases one’s breath. Stepping out from the balcony, down the wooden stairs onto the patio, one reaches the meadow. Then, walking downhill without steepness, one arrives at the bank of the river that crosses the valley. Stone is used in different ways, in different types of laying, externally in opus incertum, internally in rectangular form in various sizes.

The bedrooms at Rosapetra, Cortina

In the bedroom, the stone pillar at the corner is a beveled slab on the joint. A roundness is produced instead of an edge – a workmanship that requires technique and skill, worthy to note. In the bathrooms the mineral material has been protected with a resin to produce waterproofing.

While in the showers the stone has been arranged in slabs, a quality of stone with shades of red. The stone of the glass in the bathroom, the soap dish, or is it wood? More than the materials per se, it is the grain that creates the play: the natural streaks of wood play with the limestone graphics.

The contrast between wood and stone at Rosapetra

The contrast between wood and stone is found in every room. In the first place in the living room that opens as you enter, then the lobby to the right, the sofas to the left: blacks, velvets and some paintings with intense blues are played with. The velvets also mimic the chamois coats of the deer in the bar on the floor of the restaurant.

The restaurant at Rosapetra, Cortina

The restaurant is the focal point of the structure, at the center of which a light installation under glass is meant to recall the skylight of an American city. The question remains as to this mixture of Cortina’s rural aesthetic composed in natural materials on the one hand, and on the other hand some references – luminous decorations, photographs under glass frames on the walls, prints in sync with the stone on the door wings – that hint at an urban attitude.

With views of the Tofane mountains, where every occasion — from breakfast to fine-dining — becomes an opportunity for conversation and exploration. Moreover, the Rosapetra Spa Resort Restaurant has a menu that enhances regional flavors and goods, seafood offers, and a wine cellar.

Rosapetra, Cortina: the wood in the gymnasium

In the gymnasium, the presence of wood returns, both in the laths with a variety of treatments and colors in the floor, and in the logs with horizontal cross-section for some decorative panels on the walls-the wood on which the workout equipment is placed, produce an environment that invites personal and physical care.

The indoor pool has indeed a respectful size, and a generous temperature. Here also stone governs the structure and accompanies to the sauna room.
