Gabbriette for Lampoon, the Boiling issue: a Succubus Chic

You scroll down your Instagram feed and suddenly you see a girl with long dark hair, a physiognomy vaguely resembling that of a very young Angelina Jolie, ’90s make-up with super-thin eyebrows, strictly all-black outfits, tattooed arms and an incredible culinary talent.

Gabriella Leigh Bechtel, better known on social media as Gabbriette, mainly made herself known to the general public at the time of the pandemic for her video tutorials of recipes, cooked in her kitchen in Los Angeles; tasty dishes, sophisticated but also simple, the 26-year-old beauty has made her way into the public’s hearts precisely because of her versatility

The image of a gothic dark lady, today better identified as ‘Succubus Chic’, a sensual and contagious smile, an unusual mix of sexy, fashion and spontaneity that made her immediately popular and led her to sign a contract with the agency IMG Models and to lend her face, body (and a lot of personality) to some brands, as ambassador and model. A few names? HEAVEN by Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, Prada, Diesel, HM, Rhode, Agent Provocateur, but also many magazines such as Purple, Paper Magazine, Highsnobiety, I-D, CR Fashion Book, Vogue.

Gabbriette, from the the punk rock band Nasty Cherry to fashion modeling

Born in Orange County into a multi-ethnic family (German father and Mexican mother), it was her family’s diverse influences that contributed to her passion for cooking, mixing dishes from her mother’s Latin cuisine with those of her father’s German culture, an experimental approach that she continues to maintain in her current recipes. But cooking is not Gabrielle’s only interest; her first love remains music.

She was a singer in the punk rock band Nasty Cherry, personally chosen by Charli XCX who had met her at the time of one of her music videos, when our It-girl was a dancer for music videos. In short, she has a multi-faceted and multi-talented personality, which has contributed to making her one of the new spearheads of social celebrities. Her success, besides being due to her particular beauty and goth-sexy-chic style, her now recognisable (and much imitated) make-up, is above all due to her ability to tell her story through different points of view, proving to be genuinely successful in many guises, while remaining true to herself.

Gabbriette: between the influencer marketing and the celebrity system

Perhaps gone are the days when all you had to do to go viral and become appreciated as a social star was to take a photo with the right look and the right light; people, and brands themselves, are increasingly relying on people who are first and foremost people, with a story to tell, real talents, something to say; personality before clothes. Gabbriette is the perfect representative of this new direction somewhere between influencer marketing and the celebrity system proper, and we are sure that with time she will not cease to amaze us.
