Nat and twins Sirat and Mannat blending in with untamed nature, sun-bleached sand and the never ending blue skies of Rockaway Beach, New York. I wanted to feel the sand with bare feet and dig in with fingers, feel the prickling grass, feel the wind on the bare skin, sink the heels in the wet sand and seaweed, blend into the sound of roaring waves. I focused on portraits, as well as details of body parts and fashion, to embrace and emphasize the bond between Nat, Sirat and Mannat. It’s about them. It’s about their energy, love and connection. 

She was the daughter of a King, the sister of a King, the wife of a King – and the lover of an enemy. It sounds like a melody – but who will sing her name for me?

Marie Tomanova

Czech-born photographer. She grew up in a South Moravian border town, Mikulov. After receiving a painting MFA she left for the United States. Turning to photography displacement, identity, gender, and memory became key themes in her work. She published two volumes: Young American (Paradigm Publishing 2019) and New York New York (Hatje Cantz, 2021). Tomanova currently lives and works in NYC.
