Uncorrecting: facing the mirror, examining our bodies – Daniele Fummo for Lampoon Fall22

What would I change? «Instead of hiding imperfections, we want to make them visible, the best version of ourselves – what imperfections look like, even when they are not»

Daniele Fummo – Lampoon Fall22, the Muscles issue

Uncorrecting – rather than projecting ideals generated from other bodies onto theirs. Facing the mirror, examining our bodies, thinking about changes. What we explored were not imperfections but their systems, perhaps an unspoken wish, and eventually we learned to live. Most of us have been there, at least once in our life. and have grown accustomed to measuring our existence to portray awareness and groundedness in one’s body.

If only I could ‘adjust’ what I don’t like about myself. For many of us that has remained but a curiosity. In a society developed around the concept of beauty, we have been subjected to the quest for validation. We have become more aware of how we are judged. What if we inverted the ‘beautification’ process? and the parts of ourselves which do not fit within it. so that we could take these beliefs and subvert them. With what everyone calls ‘imperfections’. And we tend to present what we believe to be. What we are recognizing is a system, a grid.

We wanted to capture not imperfections. What if we changed the conditions? but the act of facing and owning them, and its success, by number of likes. Instead of hiding imperfections, we want to make them visible, the best version of ourselves. what imperfections look like. even when they are not. What would I change? What can I change? After all, we do not know

Daniele Fummo, photographer

Born and raised in Naples, moved to London in 2013, Daniele Fummo started to capture moments and people: a street-reporting method that forged his initial photographic style. Inspired by diversity and inclusion, he promised himself to celebrate the ‘being’, the various selves that shape our society no matter their differences – or rather thanks to their differences. He has always been fascinated by the complexity and fragility of human nature.
