Baxter Dury – Alix Bortoli and Stylist Vrinda Jelinek show the British singer shadows to the public: «my demons are more conceptual than monstrous manifestations but equally scary»
Shadow licker – Baxter Dury and his rough aesthetic
Baxter Dury moves across the stage in an atmosphere somewhere between dream and artistic delirium, in a dark, undefined space illuminated by spotlights. You can feel the presence of a devil dancing among unusual figures, as in his video Aylesbury Boy, along with director Noel Paul. Distortions, vignettes, and Caravaggesque suggestions: Baxter Dury’s aesthetic moves through the ghosts of Shakespeare’s Macbeth in a smoky depiction of modern times. The vice of the bourgeoisie and the torment of the damned, Baxter Dury with his skinny jacket and tie swinging like a pendulum disappears onstage at the boundary between narrator and outside observer.

Title: Baxter Dury on creativity and demons
I don’t think you know who I am
I’m the sausage man
The shadow licker
I’m the tiny little ghost
That features in your despondent
moments
The timeless whisper
The glassy dude
Baxter Dury and his inner demons
Editorial Team
Do you have demons? Which type of demons are they?
Baxter Dury
The same ubiquitous demons that haunt us all in tender moments. Value vs effort ratio syndrome, how much do I try and what it’s really worth.
Editorial Team
What do they look like? Could you draw some?
Baxter Dury
My demons are more conceptual than monstrous manifestations but equally scary.
Editorial Team
Do they come often in your process of writing?
Baxter Dury
Yes my writing is soaked in them but they’re played out in abstract story lines, they’re kind of confessional.
Editorial Team
Are they important?
Baxter Dury
Yes I’m sure they create the layers of doubt that make us all interesting in the end.
Editorial Team
Do you like them?
Baxter Dury
I’m interested in people’s fallibilities as that’s what makes us alluring.
Editorial Team
Did you lose some during your life?
Baxter Dury
Yes
Editorial Team
If yes, do you miss them?
Baxter Dury
Yes
Editorial Team
Can you have good demons?
Baxter Dury
You can tame all demons eventually but sometimes to your detriment.
