Erotism – Pola Esther’s Potatoes with pearls explores womanity

Womanity and feminine archetypes. Pola Esther for Lampoon online, Potatoes with pearls

Pola Esther’s photographic work for Lampoon, focuses on a series of photographs that reflect on the condition of women in the past and the image of them projected into the present day. Stereotypes that are linked to tradition and that re-emerge – in a perspective of objectification of the female body and gestures – in a sexist society, overlapping role and gender and drawing with this the destinies of an entire half of the population: that of women.

Title Potatoes with pearls

«The concept evolved from my recent project where I’ve been exploring femininity and experimenting with the idea of women who peel.  Contemplating the gesture, the act of peeling, I started reflecting on different attributes of femininity.

Domestic woman who peels potatoes for dinner, professional woman who peels nylons and tights from her legs after work, sexual woman who peels fruit as an erotic fantasy. It led me to look closer at feminine archetypes related to womanity and womanly chores, ex. housekeeper, secretary, mother, lover. Several of them are inevitably becoming boring stereotypes, relics of the past».
