The Sacred Valley: communities of Urubamba
Title: The Sacred Valley: communities of Urubamba
The town of Urubamba is situated within the Sacred Valley region – surrounded by a grand set of mountains, it is a vast valley, an hour outside of Cusco. It is the jumping-off point for visitors to travel to Machu Picchu but has a deep cultural history of its own.
While there, I met the women of the Chincheros community, spent an afternoon with local high school children, and took in the beautiful surroundings of Peru’s rich biodiversity. The Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu call tourists from all parts of South America, and within Peru. Large school tour groups from other regions of Peru are coming to take in the surroundings and learn the ancient history of the Sacred Valley. These images were taken in the Fall of 2023.
