Hugo Denis-Queinec: 24 hours in Hackney district, London
When all maps failed, cigarette-burnt jackets, beer flavored tongue, dead phone battery, gas holders at a distance chance encounters all became temporary geographical attempts at self-location
Hugo Denis-Queinec: 24 hours in Hackney district, London
“This story was shot in Hackney last december. I shot all the photos during 24h in London. With the battery dead, I catch a glimpse of the Gas Holder in the distance, the visual emblem of the Hackney district. On my way to meet a friend, I stop to ask a passer-by for directions and immortalise his portrait before he walks away. This series captures the furtive moments of an urban drift, between chance encounters and visual landmarks. It bears witness to the ephemeral temporality of a passage through an unfamiliar city, where each shot tells a brief story before giving way to the next”.
