Inform Interiors, Vancouver. Dipped in Danish Design

«We tend to not buy into ‘trends’», says Inform Interiors employee Meriah Schultz Olson – «and try to stay true to a larger aesthetic arc»

The simplicity and functionality of Scandinavian design is a hallmark of the Inform Interiors showroom, but don’t let their Danish backbone stir a sense of limitation, this expansive 30,000+ square-foot showroom plays host to designers from every corner of Europe, Canada, Africa, as well as South America. «We tend to not buy into ‘trends’», says Inform Interiors employee Meriah Schultz Olson, «and try to stay true to a larger aesthetic arc». Though the company certainly has a «soft spot for many Nordic brands», a piece’s origin is neither here nor there and what earns it its prized showroom floor space is its design and aesthetic.

Inform Interiors in Vancouver

Founded in 1963 under the original name of Danet Interiors, the company was and largely remains to this day the brainchild of Niels Bendtsen. The designer, whose 1975 design the Ribbon Chair can be found in New York City’s Museum of Modern Art, took a brief hiatus from the store to further his design education back in Denmark, returning in in the 1980s to regain control of Danet and rebrand as Inform Interiors. To this day, «Niels is like a guiding compass for the whole company», says Olson. His own line, Bensen, can be found for sale at Inform Interiors and while he is highly involved on the financial end of the operation, «it’s Nancy Bendtsen [his wife] who is the leader of Inform on a daily basis». While performing managerial type duties, Bendtsen is also a key figure in the curation process at Inform.
