Lampoon SALIVA – Horny for Culture
Lampoon Issue 34 investigates saliva as a biological substance, a sexual language, an artistic medium. Eighty million bacteria exchanged in a kiss. The prehistoric use of spit in painting. The ancient Japanese practice of fermenting rice through human saliva. The oral secretions of a venomous lizard that contributed to the development of GLP-1 drugs. The human body is less sophisticated, and much more interesting, than we like to believe.
Not everything that comes out of a mouth is worth listening to. Saliva is. We produce it, swallow it, and exchange it. We need it to eat, speak, taste, kiss, fuck. Ninety-nine percent water, slightly stringy, occasionally disgusting. Nobody is above it.
Professor Camillo Ricordi, Stefano Boeri, Andrea Bariselli, Lea T, Maja Malou Lyse, Tomasz Kręcicki and Mohammad Reza Mortazavi enter the conversation. Photography by Maisie Cousins, Olivia Malone, Ferry van der Nat, Alba Yruela, Sally Moore, Spyros Rennt and others explores viscosity, friction, desire and the uncomfortable proximity of bodies.
Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Fendi Couture, Cartier, Moncler and Brunello Cucinelli contribute to a visual investigation of fashion and its relationship with physical desire.
SALIVA SILICA — The Glass Edit introduces a different kind of transparency. Glass, an ancient material that can be melted, blown, broken and remade, becomes the subject of an investigation spanning fashion, architecture and design. Bottega Veneta, Hermès, Coperni, Ronan Bouroullec and Martino Gamper.
A magazine about people who obsess over something until it becomes their entire world. Science meets eroticism. Photography meets biology. Culture gets wet.
We don’t need more perfection. We need more saliva.
