CM Málaga results from the interaction between three parties: FYCMA, the Regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, and Diario Sur, the city’s leading daily newspaper

FYCMA: a framework toward advancement

FYCMA is a platform serving the municipality of Málaga and its community and immediate surroundings. Among the components of the public program within the context of FYCMA is Foro Transfiere, which focuses on exchanging knowledge from academia to the professional world, Greencities, a platform dedicated to urban and ecological impact, and CM Málaga Culture and Museum International Tech Forum.

Málaga: a smart driving city in Southern Europe

Málaga. The city is committed until 2030 to a Strategic Plan, a process of development of the city’s objectives, whose keywords are sustainability and innovation. The development plan that the town has conceived entails fostering the intersections between culture and technology.

«Culture is a crucial ingredient for collective advancement and promotes greater prosperity for the community. It is an engine of development and progress, conceiving museums as vital context. That is why we thought of combining technology and culture to organize an event like CM Málaga in which we would analyze how technology is promoting a new way of managing culture, disseminating it, and consuming it», explains the trade fairs manager of FYCM, José Antonio Colón.

The programming for the future edition of CM Málaga

On the one hand, the 3rd International Symposium on Digital Solutions in Museums and Cultural Institutions; on the other hand, the 2nd International Technical Conference for Culture and Technology Professionals.

«The 3rd International Symposium on Digital Solutions in Museums and Cultural Entities, for instance, will address aspects of cultural ecosystems in the digital age, artistic and cultural mediation strategies, digital solutions related to sustainability, and the functionality of arts and cultural institutions and their multi-platform future».

«Furthermore, the 2nd International Technical Conference for Culture and Technology Professionals will focus on digitizing small and medium sized museums. Also, workshops, lectures, and panel discussions will analyze the challenges and opportunities for cultural institutions in the digital age and the competitive advantages of smaller centers. The meeting will also present the international technology scenario in the cultural sector by analyzing projects implemented by leading international institutions», the trade fairs manager of FYCMA illustrates.

For this purpose, this platform will gather experts, technology enthusiasts, and cultural practitioners, stimulating collaboration and the exchange of ideas to shape the future of the cultural industry.

CM Málaga: technologies and solutions for culture and museums

The forum aims to bridge the gap between culture and innovation, shedding light on solutions that can improve the museum experience, conservation, and accessibility of cultural artifacts. CM Málaga will indeed host an exhibition area with the participation of sixty technology companies that are bringing innovation to different segments of culture. From archive digitization to digital art proposals, holographic visual solutions, applied artificial intelligence, and virtual and augmented reality.

CM Málaga and the case of a successful collaboration

CM Málaga Culture and Museum International Tech Forum is a strategic infrastructure to propel new partnerships within the cultural industry. Given that, by bringing together experts, professionals, and innovators from different sectors, the forum creates a dynamic platform for networking and knowledge exchange. Indeed, it offers a unique opportunity for cultural institutions, technology companies, and creative individuals to connect, share ideas, and explore potential collaborations to drive innovation in the sector.

«We have the case of a company in Málaga, La Brújula, which was looking for new ways to manage the heritage environment through technology. They wanted game operators to rethink their vision of cultural settings. Therefore, they launched a competition in which they selected five winning video games that would playfully expose the cultural heritage. So, at CM Málaga, they liaised with the European University, which appreciated the project and is preparing a study on the impact of this product, testing five hundred users. We will then disseminate the results to make the methodology known scientifically», José Antonio Colón affirms.

CM Málaga and the global perspective

The program makers also undertook determined efforts to include voices and perspectives from diverse cultural backgrounds, ensuring that the program reflects the rich tapestry of global heritage.

CM Málaga Tech Forum showcases technological advances and creates a space to celebrate cultural diversity, resulting in a more inclusive and comprehensive exploration of the intersection of culture and technology. In fact, participants from twenty nine states all over the world will contribute to the next edition.

Recognizing the urgency of addressing environmental concerns, CM Málaga as a result took measures to ensure that the event conformed to safe practices. From the initial stage to the production, sensitivity to ecological implications is integrated into each fair aspect. «Efforts are made to minimize the carbon footprint through measures such as responsible water management, digitization of the media, commitment to the circular economy, a strict waste separation policy, and the promotion of responsible practices among suppliers, such as in the case of restaurants and catering: choice of seasonal and local products, reuse of modular stands».

«FYCMA is also a member of the UN Global Compact» – adds the trade fairs manager – «Thus, our site is part of an international commitment developed by the United Nations (UN) for companies and institutions to respect human rights, labor standards, the environment, and anti-corruption principles».
