All that I am: carrying on a conversation around self, gender and powers roles

A man is the mirror of nature, a photographic investigation that leads to the discovery of multiples within a singularity

The roots of the project lie in the human desire for freedom to be

One and one hundred thousand, that’s who we are. Pirandello’s search for oneself takes place in front of a camera. The instrument that par excellence records disguises and ‘all that we are not’, in the hands of Nicola and Manuel becomes a place in which to take off masks and without fear, be ‘all that I am’. A melting pot of moods are the possibilities of human expression; a spectrum of forms is the variety of nature. Infinite textures make up the identity of an individual, a kaleidoscope that offers different shapes by mixing its pieces according to one’s desire. The images are an escape from perfection and a search for freedom, showing the potential of expression and underlining the key role of nature which can remind us that we are made of different facets.

How to break off the cage of society and let speak the true self

Humans are pieces of a puzzle, if they don’t fit in, society just replaces them with someone else. Where is the error? Society would say it’s in you. Nicola and Manuel would say it’s in the imposed beliefs that generate the catastrophe of personalities. From the fluidity of genre to the fluidity of expression: the photographic duo offers visions in which categories are flipped, the concepts of right and wrong are unhinged and contradictions are in the nature of humans. There are no instructions to be in the world and there’s only one rule of the game: to support ever-morphing. Better to be the indefinite than to be defined by someone else.
