Digital Roughness – Quality control: Paul Whitfield and Marianthi Hatzikidi

A dynamic feel to this project morphing the subject into a revolutionary warrior – Paul Whitfield and Marianthi Hatzikidi for Lampoon online reflect on the roughness of the digital image

Paul Whitfield and Marianthi Hatzikidi in a story on the roughness of digital photography – Quality control

Quality control explores and questions visual standards in today’s fashion editorial and digital photography world. Using repurposed photography lab advice stickers as a vehicle/voice, these labels once adorned under/over exposed, out of focus photos to give advice on how to take a photograph.

These newly worded labels have been given a new life within this contemporary editorial. They question standards across all elements and aim to evoke a thought process from today’s audience.

Marianthi Hatzikidi’s styling poses a strange, dynamic, mysterious feel to this project morphing the subject/model into a chic revolutionary warrior (acting as a further visual metaphor to challenge standards on a different level and aspect).

Paul Whitfield, photographer

Paul Whitfield is a London based photographer. His interests lie in capturing visceral, rough and physical elements from his subjects, juxtaposing these against curated ideas.

He plays with the space and the serendipity that evolves between these two elements to create depth and narrative. His gritty intuitive shooting style brings a raw honesty to his aesthetic and to brings his intent to life.Paul has successfully integrated his style and vision into his commercial work often seamlessly transitioning between the two.

Paul’s background is in Fine art with a BA Hons in photographic art. Hailing from Bristol UK where he studied fine art he was exposed to a strong iconic music and street art scene of the 90’s which shaped and influenced his energetic /raw way of working which translates in his work today.
