Guizio, the right time – craftsmanship is the soul of your garment

It is a period of reflection and relates to aesthetics, taking place before considering the restraints of production. In conversation with Danielle Guizio

Throughout my childhood I was always drawn to fashion, in my adult years the fixation didn’t fade. When I was in highschool I wasn’t fully confident that becoming a fashion designer would provide me with a successful career path, so I decided to enroll in fashion school and study the business side of the industry instead.

The decision to dedicate to fashion

It was always my goal to start a brand of my own, but at times I put it on the back burner. I guess you could say I was waiting for the ‘right time’. At age 23 I had a life threatening health experience and had to go into emergency surgery. It wasn’t until then that I truly understood that life is short and we have to take risks in order to achieve our dreams. After my recovery I decided to quit my job working retail and start my company, nothing could hold me back any longer.

Periods of time and places inspire me the most. I’m constantly inspired by all that is around me; travel, nature, history, film, music. There are so many legends I look up to Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Issey Miyake, and Azzedine Alaïa. We incorporate a lot of corsets into our collections, they have become the core of the brand. I’ve always been drawn to them. I also include a lot of form fitting silhouettes, I love highlighting the shape of the woman’s body. I feel there’s a lot of power in that.

Inspiration, corsets, the shape of the woman’s body

Craftsmanship is the soul of your garment, it’s the artistry and the TLC that goes into the design. Without proper craftsmanship the piece not only will not look it’s best, but it will not perform it’s best either. Great craftsmanship is like giving your customer a worthy investment into the product they’re purchasing from you. I believe our legacy lies within craftsmanship. Most recently, we launched our namesake denim line that is washed with 70% less water than conventional washing methods, while cutting out the use of harmful chemicals that impacts both the environment and health of laborers involved in manufacturing the denim.
